I really really loved the sermon that I heard yesterday. The pastor was talking about how in 1 Thes 2:17ish (it goes for a few verses) Paul really really wants to see the people in Thessalonica because he loves them. He loves them enough that he would be willing to go back to a place that he was persecuted in order to see them.
The sermon was supposed to be about how to love people like Paul loved people. I understood it as why people are important, why we should love people, and how to view people.

He broke it up into a number of points to view people through.
1. Everyone is created in God's image. Gen 1:26-27 Every single person on this planet is created in God's image. Man or Woman.

2. God loves every person on this planet. John 3:16 God loves humanity enough that he sent his Son to die for us.

3. Every person in your life is there for a reason. The scriptural reasoning he gave for this is kind of odd but it was 1 Cor 12:12-13 This talks about how the Church is put together, but he made the (in my opinion justifiable) leap saying that if God is putting together the Body of Christ in specific ways then He is putting together our lives in specific ways.

4. All people are equal in value even though they are different from one another. Diversity is a good thing. Galatians 3:26-28 People are brought together through Christ. It could be as extreme as Slaves and Masters or not as extreme as leftys and rightys.

5. Everyone you run into is your neighbor. He talked about the good Samaritan.

I really needed to hear this message and was so glad that I was in church Saturday to hear it.

There are days where I just want to find everyone who has such an angry ugly opposition to Christianity and hug them. Hug them and ask them why. Actually listen to them. And then hug them again. Let them know that not all Christians are out to get them or to scream in their face or judge them.

Springtime For Hitler is now going to be stuck in my head for DAYS. I made the mistake of watching NSFW's Hitler's Dice episode and it ends up being played...I know big surprise.

They played the new one where Barrowman sings it. Can I just say it freaks me out to see Barrowman blonde and Nazi-like. Though when I watched it the first time I didn't realize it was him.

Now here is a question: Is this okay? I mean the dude gets money for a service. At the same time, you are yelling at a human being who thinks that the way to make money is to stand with a sign.

SO...I'm at the airport just gotten through security. They randomly searched my laptop. Not gonna lie, freaked out about that. I being the silly person I am was like "Umm if Im allowed to ask, Whatcha doin'"? Literally those exact words. They were doing a check for explosives. I kind of wonder if it was all the stickers on the outside of my laptop ;) I totally forgot that I would have to take off my shoes...mismatching socks for the win :) All the cool kids have blue socks on one foot and white on the other. *is hungry* The security at Portland was wonderful and nice as normal :)

There is a flight boarding on the gate beside us. They have people with too much baggage, and keep asking people if they would like to check their baggage and then that if they have small items to please store them under the seat in front of them instead of the overhead compartment...somebody forgot the idea that they cant have as much baggage as they want. ;)

So I think Im done for now, I dont have a ton of battery power.
Hopefully our plane flight will go well. Praying for that actually.

I played WoW for a bit, made a human paladin. I ate some tasty food signed for my receipt with a TD Bank pen ( I was hoping that maybe they'd have a bank in the terminal...they don't. The cashier had brought it from home)

I have a 2ish hour flight ahead of me, so I'm going to do some podcast listening. Twill be awesome :)

This is Andrew Mayne talking about how illusionists can create opportunities for themselves.
Though this isn't just about magic it has points that can be brought over to other places. There is an amusing rant about linking rings. I was entertained for the whole time and frankly I'm not that into magic.

Plus I love the fact that he answers random questions. Should I use magic to ask a girl to homecoming? Dude did you ever get tacos last week and what type were they? And of course serious questions.

Doctor Who/Torchwood crossover: In which Holmes and Watson are part of the London resistance during The Year That Never Was.

I haven't read all the stories that answer the prompt yet, but for some reason I just fraking adore this prompt. Obviously John would be all I'm a doctor and a BAMF soldier, but there are so many different ways Sherlock could go in this.
The way the one story that I did read went was quite distressing but WONDERFUL.

If I still wrote things of a fictional variety I think I would be tempted by this. It will probably be something traveling around my brain for a few days.

I'm not quite sure how to phrase what has been on my mind lately. So this is as close as I can get right now.

1. I try so very very hard to be open minded and mindful of how words have power, how you phrase things can matter.

2. I also realize that funny things are funny, and you can't always control what makes you laugh. But I can control my exposure to things, and eventually I can control my reactions to things.

3. Watching the NSFW show (a podcast on the TWiT network) makes me laugh like crazy. Listening to the Weird things TV podcast makes me laugh as well.

4. Some of the things said on NSFW and Weird things probably should offend me, I know for a fact that I know people who would be highly offended and start whipping out words like racist, sexist, anti-gay ant-God, etc. They would also find things wrong with it that I don't and probably start throwing around words like privilege, cissexism, and sizeism,

5. 99% of those words don't really describe them I think. Because other times they condemn racism, homophobia, and sexism.

6. I don't know how I feel about the fact that I laugh and have a good time listening to Weird Things and the NSFW Show knowing that they on many occasions will say insensitive, inappropriate, and irreverent (I'm all about the alliteration apparently) things.

7. I have had this issue many times with other media as well. Some I just cut out of my life, extremely violent movies for example. Others I walk a fine line where I will watch some episodes and not others. Some I"m oddly drawn to even though I disagree with them. I heart Julia Sweeny's monologues (including the Letting Go of God one).

8. I really haven't reached any conclusion about this. But its been bouncing around my head for awhile.

The plus of being obsessed about a sci-fi fantasy show is that when you read fic that has adults being turned into children, or MPREG or genderswap, or can't function without the other because they've bonded or telepathy or immortality or time travel or the existence of aliens. Alien technology, spells, Badwolf, future human evolution, all of those make it possible. The fandoms I"ve been in for the most part have allowed for suspension of belief or didn't need to ask for it. (except for that one west wing werewolf fic that caused me to become obsessed with Josh/Sam).
I'd never really read fic that had a cannon universe that didn't have magic, that still wanted there to be magical stuff.
Ballyk never tried to pull that stuff on me. Studio 60 and Sports night were just angsty or slashy or episode like usually. Josh/Sam fics adopted or had a surrogate mother, they never got preggers. Assumpta lived or died, she wasn't imortal or had alien technology bring her back.

But now I'm reading Sherlock prompts and fics where Sherlock is immortal or John is up the duff or Sherlock can see the future or John can read minds. They aren't crossover fic, they are set in the "normal London" universe. I hadn't realized what level of comfort and suspension of belief a sci-fi show can give you while reading about telepathy and immortality.

Its frankly a bit jarring to read a fic where John gets pregnant. Jack? No Problem. Ianto? No Problem because either alien technology or Jack's super evolved crazy sperm. Giles? No problem either super Slayer powers or a spell or affect from demon blood. Sherlock has snuff fic that is you know actually snuff, not Ianto went a bit too far and then Jack comes back from the dead.

It's jarring but still fun to read about.

This has been on my mind for a couple of days now. Where I work I frequently don't have much to add to the discussions my coworkers are having, so I think a lot. And I don't have anyone to have this convo with in real life b/c Nick always laughs at/makes fun of fic that I read.

What I love about some of the stuff I've read in the sherlock ficpromty thing I've been reading:

1) Anderson+Dinosaurs= <3 (and slightly creepy sexytimes...the myfanny+Anderson non con prompt squigged me out. Not even the knowledge that it would be a crac! fic and that its like a trainwreck situation you are compelled to read coudl get me to actually read it. )

2)Sherlock texting John during sexytimes :)

3) I now know what demisexual means .

The only thing that makes me kind of sad is that after celebrating that this fandom is relatively new, I realised that because it was new there isn't a boat load of fic. I had a torchwood obsession with fic that lasted from March/Aprish-about 2 weeks ago and I ALWAYS found fic to read. This is atleast an hour of fic reading a night.
I'm still finding sherlock fic now, but what about in a month or so?

I am going to rewatch the first ep of Sherlock tonight. Twill be great fun :)

So to be truthful I had to look at lists of songs that came out in 2010. I really don't listen to the radio or anything so the new music I find is based on things that ppl put in their LJ or DW entries, facebook links, etc. So I was bopping around and then found that Blue Gillespie

It has been so long since I have been in a fandom that is active and new. Where all the fan fiction is only at most 2 months old. Or at least the fiction that is based on this particular rendition.

Starting in march this year I went headfirst into a crazy torchwood binge. I had watched the show before and done a little bit of fic reading (I watched most of COE as it aired) but I spent at least 2 or 3 hours a day reading fic or reading something fandom related. But I felt like I jumped on the wagon too late.

Then Sherlock came along. I am a late joiner, I just watched it last week. And I know that its not really a new story, its a modernization and lots of tweaks. But it feels new to me.

I dont' know why fandom is so important to me right now. I would guess some of it is that I don't really spend a lot of time with other people now, besides my coworkers. I don't have constant interaction about entertainment that I like except through online or with my fiance. My coworkers are wonderful, they just don't have the same interests as far as entertainment that I do. When I first started working there apparently no one knew what to talk to me about (Meagan, my boss, likes to tell me these things for some reason. And how if I had not sent the thank you letter emails that I did after my first interview I would never have received teh job offer). I mesh with a certain type of person I don't have that type of person in my day to day life right now. So I'm filling it with fandom. I know I am and for now I'm okay with that.

For instance: All the meme stuff I found for torchwood (except for one kinkymeme fic fest) was over years ago. There is still a vibrant bustling fandom, full of cosplays and ficathons and stuff, but with no new Cannon Content stuff gets recycled a lot. And with the whole COE thing and season 2 finale there is a crap ton of fix it fic and LA LA LA What is this COE you speak of. I kind of like

True blood is still going on, but I have ZERO interest in the fandom for that. I do wonder if some of the reason I was like SHERLOCK YEAH *joins every LJ community* *dives into all the fanfic she can find* is the fact that there is a heavy J/S component which I just didn't find in True blood. I have a love/hate thing going about Bill and Sookie, Sam annoys me, Tara's mother makes me see red. The only thing I truly ADORE like clap my hands and squee when I see it is Jessica/Hoyt stuff. I have read two of the books teh show is based on and while not horrid, there are fanfics that I enjoyed way better.
I worry that some of my adoration of Sherlock is the totally ship I have for John and Sherlock. I don't know if I would love it as much if there wasn't that ship there. Which makes me uneasy for some reason. I don't know why.

I don't have cable. I don't have my TV hooked up at all actually. I refuse to pay for stuff that I can find legally for free or for a very small fee. But I miss the randomness factor of tv. I miss not having to know exactly what I want to watch and instead being able to flip through channels to find something. I miss something always being there, not necessarily something I like, but something.

I've never been a techie, never been fantastic with the computers or the video games. I know just enough to get by and to be able to talk about it somewhat. I'm a geek when it comes to TV and books and interweby things, but not really how a computer or a phone or a camera works. But for some reason I always LOVED the TV show ScreenSavers on TechTV (back when it was Tech Tv). I hearted watching Kevin Rose turn an electric toothbrush into something crazy and dangerous. I hearted Leo Laporte's crazy cowboy outfit, etc.

TWiT.tv is "a podcast (though TWiT uses the term netcast) network run by technology broadcaster and author Leo Laporte." (wikipedia)
Basically all of these podcasts are streamed live and then rerun throughout the week. So I get the randomness and it is always on with something. Most of the time its interesting and funny and fun to watch. When it isn't I switch over to something else.

It provides that randomness that I love about tv, and its free. Yay free :)

I figure I should do a sort of intro post. Most of the people I added to my circle came from LJ and have a sort of idea who I am but since its a new journal, I figure why not.

Normally my introductions in real life consist of a simple "Hello, My name is Savannah" *handshake*.

But since I'm on Dreamwidth, the dynamic is different. The words I use, the voice that may or may not come through my writing, the grammar I use (cause I'm sort of ok with spoken grammar, but written grammar and mechanics are a train wreck with me) is different. So here's an attempt (and of course if you want to know more, PLEASE comment....I heartz teh comments!)

If I had only a paragraph to introduce myself in, I wouldn't include my stats. But since I have a plethora of paragraphs (woot alliteration) available to me here they are:
I'm a 24 year old woman. I am a bank teller (yay for being a professional counter). I'm in a long-term relationship which has been going on for 6 years and 6 months. I'm a gamer(though pretty bad at it) and a geek. In the entries to come, I'll probably show my geek side a bit more then one would anticipate. I'm a bisexual who is also a Christian (which has caused much difficulties in my head). I hate bugs and love unicorns and rainbows.

But if I only had a sentence or two I really wish I could say (or at the very least think) "Hi, I'm Savannah and even though I don't know you, I love you." Yes I know its trite, and rather reflective of what was said in V for Vendetta at one point, but I'm working towards being able to at least believe it in my head that I could say that, but its gonna be a long, long battle. Being commanded to love not only friends but enemies and people I don't know is a difficult one to do.

This of course is only a partial introduction to who I am. I, along with almost everyone I know, cannot be summed up in on a DW entry. People and life is WAY to complicated to condense to an entry. This was a start though :)
